Carole Sue Morey
November 21, 1940 – October 30, 2011
CHAPEL HILL, NC
Carole Sue Morey (McMahan), 70, passed away peacefully with her family beside her on Sunday, October 30, following a brave seven-month battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Jack Morey, daughters Laura Morey of Apex, NC and Anne Morey Mouslmani, and husband Ali Mouslmani, grandsons TJ and Zakary Mouslmani, all of Dubai, United Arab Emirates, brother-in-law Samuel Morey of Jacksonville, Florida, and several cousins, nieces and nephews of whom she was fond.
Carole was born in Springfield, Missouri, to the late George and Bonnie McMahan and graduated from Drury University, where she met her future husband and especially enjoyed her time in the Tri Delta sorority. After graduating college with a degree in business and getting married she earned her teaching certificate and was a junior high school teacher before she left to stay home with her children.
Carole will be remembered for her generous spirit and as a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who made a home for her family in all of the ten states her husband’s corporate career took them before their eventual retirement in Chapel Hill. A brief stay in Tucson, Arizona, sparked a love of the landscape and culture of the Southwest, and she enjoyed vacationing there as often as possible. She was an avid reader and loved classical music, travelling within the United States, Europe, especially the British Isles, and Middle East, and socializing and playing bridge with her friends.
A highlight of Carole’s retirement years was reuniting in Tucson with her childhood friends Ellen Whittingham and Janice McCaulley in November 2010 for a celebration of their 70th birthdays.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 10th, at 10:30 am at First & Calvary Presbyterian Church, 820 E. Cherry St., Springfield, MO 65806.
