Carolyn Sue Felkner, beloved mother, grandmother, and sister, peacefully entered the arms of her Savior on April 3, 2025, at the age of 91. She was born on December 19, 1933, in Springfield, Missouri. Sue was the cherished daughter of Silvanus “Silvie” Eutychus and Jesse Virginia (Stephenson) Martin. Sue was united in marriage to Fred M. Felkner at the Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church in Springfield on June 14, 1952. They resided in Kansas City for a short time, but made their home in Clinton, Missouri for 28 years where they raised their 3 children. They moved back to their hometown of Springfield in 1993 after Fred’s retirement. Fred passed away in February 2019. They were married for 66 years before Fred’s death.
A dedicated homemaker, Sue’s greatest joy came from raising her 3 children; her son, David Felkner, and her daughters, Pamela Robbins and Becky McAtee. She poured her heart into motherhood, cultivating a loving environment filled with faith and compassion. The main thing she instilled in her family was the willingness to serve others. As her family grew, so did her role as a nurturing grandmother, relishing in the blessing of her grandchildren.
Sue was an active member of the Assembly of God Church in both Clinton, Missouri and Fair Grove, Missouri. Her faith in God was a cornerstone of her life, sustaining her through various challenges. She actively contributed to her church community by teaching Sunday School, leading Children’s Church, a leader of Women’s Missions, and serving as the church secretary. She also participated in home mission trips to Mexico. Her commitment to her faith and community reflected her generous spirit and unwavering devotion. She was also active in the community by serving as the leader of the local 4-H club for several years and she also held several positions in the local VFW Auxiliary.
Sue is survived by her three children and their spouses; David and Cindy Felkner, Pamela and Robert Robbins, and Becky McAtee; six grandchildren: Robin Beach (Jeremy), Whitney Felkner, Tyler Felkner, Jonathan McAtee (Halea), Karissa Kauflin (Cameron), and Josh McAtee; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Pat Maples; and a brother, Robert Martin.
She was preceded in death by her parents, S.E. and Virginia Martin; her husband, Fred Felkner; and her son-in-law, Darin McAtee.
Friends and family are invited to gather to celebrate Sue’s life and to share in the cherished memories she leaves behind on Monday, April 7, 2025 at the Greenlawn Funeral Home (North). Visitation will be held 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM and the funeral service will commence at 10:00 AM. Sue will be laid to rest with her husband at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield, Missouri.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Assembly of God Church in Fair Grove, Missouri.
