Charlene Chandler was born in Galt, Grundy County, MO on October 11, 1932 to parents, George and Jessie Scott. She attended Galt High School all 12 years, graduating in 1950 with honors. She worked for a Clinical Laboratory while attending business college, then worked in the legal profession for about 5 years. She started work with the City of Springfield in 1955 with the newly organized Planning & Traffic Department as secretary to the Director and secretary of the Zoning & Planning Commission, the Board of Adjustment and the Traffic Advisory Board. She was appointed Interim Director by the City Manager for a short period of time between directorships. She Left the city for approximately 5 years then returned and worked in the Public Works Engineering Department and later became the Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent of Sanitary Services and then Parts & Inventory Control for the Waterwaste Treatment Section retiring from the city after 35 years. She held officer positions for a Business Women’s Organization including the Presidency. It was believed to be the oldest Business Women’s Organization in the state of Missouri. She is survived by sister; Grace Jackson of Springfield, MO., her two neices: Deola Groves of Lebanon, MO and Judy Mease of Hurley, MO.
Graveside Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 6, 2012 in Hazelwood Cemetery in Springfield. Arrangements have been entrusted to Greenlawn Funeral Home South.
