Charles Wilbur Givens was born in Chadwick, Missouri, to Norman and Silvia Givens on May 4, 1938 and passed away on September 18, 2010.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jacqueline Givens, of 49 years; his four brothers, Floyd Givens, Earl Dean Givens, Bobby Givens, and Jack Givens; and his two sisters, Imogene Givens and Georgia Givens.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Givens, whom he married in September 2004; six children, Jerie Terry, Rebecca Givens, Jennifer Pendergrass, Suzette Fallon, Brenda Lyons, and Gregory Givens; four step children, Lance Phillips, Brooke Stearns, Shannon Patterson, and Justin Phillips; 18 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was known in Springfield and surrounding areas as “Doc Charlie,” of House of Vacuums, where he was the owner of two shops and starred in many TV commercials. He served on the Springfield Zoning & Planning Commission. He was a member of the Sunset Church of Christ for 25 years.
Charlie is dearly loved and his laughter, sense of humor and two cents of advice will be missed by all.
Services will be held Wednesday, September 22, 2010, at 10 a.m., in Greenlawn East Funeral Home, with visitation Tuesday evening, from 6 pm to 8 p.m., in the funeral home. Internment will be in Sparta Cemetery.
