Chester Lee (Chet) Bivins, a beloved husband, cherished father, devoted grandfather, and esteemed member of the community, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2023, at the age of 83. His departure leaves a profound void in the hearts of those who knew and loved him, but his memory will forever be held dear.
Born on June 8, 1940, in Lamar, Missouri, Chet was the son of the late Kenneth Herschel and Thelma Alice (Burnside) Bivins. From a young age, Chet exemplified a strong work ethic and unwavering dedication in all that he pursued. He graduated from Lamar High School and went on to join the United States Navy in November of 1962 and served honorable till his discharge in November 1968.
On August 18, 1973, Chet’s life forever changed when he crossed paths with Erin, his soulmate, at an enchanting dance. Their love story flourished, culminating in a joyous marriage on January 30, 1974. Together, they embarked on a journey filled with love, support, and cherished moments.
Chet’s family held an immeasurable place in his heart. He treasured every moment spent with his sons, Karl, Dale and Mack and grandchildren, Todd, Alex, Cassie, Carmen, Michael and Matthew. His devout commitment to his beliefs guided his actions and left an indelible imprint on the lives of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
He worked in manufacturing for Loren Cook Company in Springfield, inspecting and repairing fans, blowers, and ventilation equipment, till his retirement in 1995.
In retirement, Chet pursued his hobbies and passions with great zeal. Chet had a passion for firearms, appreciating their history and craftsmanship. He was also skilled in woodworking and created many functional and attractive pieces throughout his lifetime. Chet found joy and relaxation in fishing but, like many, rarely found time to indulge in the activity as much as he wished.

Additionally, his legacy lives on through his loyal sons Karl Popp, Dale and his wife Star Broesder, Mack and his wife Dawn Broesder; and adoring grandchildren, Todd and his wife and Angelia Popp, Alex Popp and his partner Amber Evans, Cassie Cowan, Carmen Heriford, Michael Broesder, and Matthew Broesder; several great-grandchildren and their families; Chet’s sister, Peg and her husband Jim Hoffman, his nieces, Kristen Hoffman and Anita and her husband Donald Atkinson, and numerous extended family members and cherished friends also mourn this profound loss.
