Christine Yvonne (Schroeder) O’Dell was born May 16, 1973 in Oberlin, Kansas. She is preceded in death by her parents Rodney Schroeder and Pauline van Almen. She is survived by her husband of 17 years, Gene O’Dell, and her two sons Johnathon and Gibson O’Dell.
Overcoming challenging circumstances as a child and young adult, Christine was able to live a full, wonderful life. She became a Registered Nurse and after a short period, gave up her career so her husband could focus on his business. She was selfless and loved giving to others, despite her ongoing physical challenges, because she believed that she would receive tenfold in return.
Christine was an active Scouting mom, supporting her son Gibson as he attained the rank of Eagle Scout, and was a tremendous volunteer for the organization. She loved her time in Scouting, especially her involvement in the Order of the Arrow – Scouting’s National Honor Society. Her unselfish service was recognized with Vigil Honor within the Wah-Sha-She Lodge. This honor, the highest honor within the Order of the Arrow, is bestowed upon its members for service to lodge, council and Scouting. Membership cannot be won by a person’s conscious endeavors. Her Vigil name was, “Determined Loving Guide,” which embodies her work in Scouting.
Blessed with a passion for adventure, Christine loved to travel. Starting with cruising, some of her favorite trips included sailing through the fjords of Norway, through Alaska, the Panama Canal, and all over the Caribbean. She loved golf destination trips, with her most memorable being Hilton Head, South Carolina at Harbour Town. Later in her travel days, she found the beach to be the most fun, especially in Aruba, Turks and Caicos and Florida. For those that knew Christine, it should be no surprise that she met many lifelong friends on these trips, many of whom she traveled with again.
Christine enjoyed being active and found her stride playing golf, especially with the girls at Twin Oaks Country Club. She focused and worked very hard on her game, spending countless hours on the range and on the course. She loved playing with her husband and two sons, relishing the times when she outdrove them (which was most of the time). The happiness she experienced on the course, both with the game and her many friends, gave her fulfillment every day she was out there.
In everything she did, Christine gave her heart and soul, leaving a lasting impression with everyone she met. Now in Heaven, she is at peace, an Angel for her family and surely waiting for the day when she can greet everyone with her beautiful smile and infectious laugh.
A visitation for Christine will be from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Thursday, July 28, 2022 at Greenlawn Funeral Home East. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
