Cody Alexander Browning passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2024, at the age of 23. He was born on January 24, 2001, to Steven Browning and Krystal (Wall) Browning.
Cody was musically gifted and could play just about any instrument. He began playing the clarinet in grade school and later entered solo competitions, advancing all the way to state. He also taught himself to play the piano and guitar. The sound of “Smoke on the Water” still rings in his sister’s ears from him playing it so much. As the years went by, he brought us all great joy by learning and playing a variety of new songs.
Cody was a unique young man: hardworking, kind, funny, and big-hearted. He was a loving big brother, a trustworthy friend, and an honorable son and grandson. Cody truly cared for his family and loved spending time with his cousins.
At Sparta High School, he set himself apart as an outstanding student. He was part of the academic team and graduated as co-valedictorian of the Class of 2019. He joked in his speech that he had asked to speak for ten minutes, but was only allowed five. However, his speech was so amazing, it is unlikely that anyone would have minded if he had spoken for a full ten minutes.
Fitness was also important to him, and he worked hard to improve and strengthen his body. He enjoyed cross-country, lifting weights, Muay Thai, kickboxing, and basketball.
Cody enjoyed playing video games. He and his friends and cousins would often play Zelda, Mario, Call of Duty, Pokémon Go, or Super Smash Bros. all night long. On more than one occasion, this led to another great search for Cody’s lost wallet at Uncle Mike’s house.
Cody wanted to travel and see new places, so on May 1, 2022, he loaded his belongings, jumped in his truck, pulled out of the drive, and moved to Austin, Texas, a city full of new opportunities, adventures, and new friends.
Cody strived to be a good example to those around him. He wanted to change the world for the better and leave footsteps for others to follow. Cody gave his life to the Lord, and he is now in heaven with the others who have gone before him. When the Lord calls us home, we will be with him once again.
He was recently diagnosed with bipolar disorder and was prescribed medication to manage the symptoms. The fire that once burned in his eyes had dimmed, and he was no longer able to see the bright, exciting future. In its place was a dullness and sadness that only allowed him to see a dark path for his life that he did not want to continue to travel.
Cody was preceded in death by his grandfather Rick Browning. He is survived by his father Steven; mother Krystal; grandmother Belinda; sister Jenna; nephew Waylon; uncle Mike; aunt Tiffany; and cousins Lucas, Tylor, Gavin, Kyle, and Erica.
