Colleen Ann Pettett Prosser was born in Ames, Iowa to late parents Vance and Bonnie Pettett. She was one of three children with two surviving older brothers Conner and Corey. Her family moved to Springfield where she graduated from Missouri State with a BA Science in Economics. She later met and married Gary Prosser, with whom she had two girls, Emily and Sara. Colleen ran a successful painting company in Springfield for more than three decades.
Colleen loved being a mother and devoted most of her time to her family. Colleen enjoyed the outdoors, horses, hiking, travel, football, and driving her Mustang like a hotrod. One of her favorite places to travel to was Glacier National Park in Montana. Colleen also loved spending time in Virginia with her eldest daughter Emily and visiting locations up and down the east coast to include Myrtle Beach SC, Williamsburg VA, Washington DC, and New York NY.
Colleen loved her church, Messiah Lutheran, her family and friends. Colleen was a devoted Christian (and Kansas City Chiefs fan) and felt the call to serve others by volunteering her talents and time with organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, Crosslines, and Safe to Sleep. Colleen saw a need to help unhoused women get back on their feet at Safe to Sleep, and through assistance with Messiah Lutheran, organized and ran the Messiah House; a house for homeless women to stay while they actively worked on gaining financial stability and independence. Colleen and other volunteers assisted by guiding these women through housing and job applications, budgeting skills, and medical hurdles.
Colleen loved unconditionally and gave herself to the service of others until there was no more left of her to give. Colleen passed away at her home peacefully on April 26th, 2026 after living a life at full throttle. Her wish was to be cremated and scattered at locations she loved and advised her loved ones to stand “up wind”.
Colleen leaves behind her brothers, Conner Pettett and Corey Pettett, her eldest daughter Emily (Prosser) Davidson and son in law Austin Davidson, youngest daughter Sara (Prosser) Keatts and son in law Joshua Keatts with granddaughter Asher Keatts, step son Jeffrey Prosser and spouse Tara Prosser and children Ivy (Prosser) Schaeffer and Jacob Prosser, step daughter Jennifer (Prosser) Cordell and spouse Joseph Cordell with children Gavin and Riley Cordell, and all of her friends and neighbors.
Memorial Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 3, 2026, at Messiah Lutheran Church: 925 East Seminole Street, Springfield, MO. 65807. The family suggests Memorial Donations may be made to The Messiah House.
