Cordia Virginia Sawyer Bauman, 98, was born September 7, 1923, to Thomas and Esther Sawyer. She was the third oldest of 10 siblings. She grew up in the Fair Play area where she attended country schools and later Fair Play High School. She worked very hard helping her parents with the farm and raising her younger siblings. Cordia married John Bauman on February 1, 1942 and to that union their only son Garry Walter was born on April 30, 1944. They lived in California, working until they moved to Blue Springs, MO in 1959, where they built a home and lived until 1972 when they moved back to Fair Play. They lived in a modest home that held many treasured memories as it was the main gathering place for her family. Cordia later sold the farm after her husband John passed away and lived in various places in southwest Missouri where she built a lot of friendships and a memorable legacy.
Cordia had a love for dogs that is like no other and loved her family very much. She would always have one or two dogs at a time and gave them a loving and wonderful life. She loved her brothers and sisters so much and would have done anything for any of them. She was always very proud of her son and the life that he made for himself and his family.
Cordia was preceded in death by her parents, her 9 siblings, her husband John, her son Garry, her close friend of many years Raymond, and her furry friends, too many to name.
Cordia is survived by her two granddaughters: Lana Bauman of Blue Springs, Deanna Gash (Bryan) of Grain Valley, her daughter in law, Martha Bauman of Blue Springs, several nieces, nephews and many friends and neighbors.
Cordia will be laid to rest at Shady Grove cemetery in Aldrich where her parents and siblings are buried and where she has decorated their graves for more than 50 years.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to your local Humane Society in her honor.
