Curtis Edward Bougher, age 73, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2026, surrounded by his family. Born in California on December 30, 1952, Curtis was a man of deep convictions, quick wit, unwavering loyalty, and boundless affection for all who knew him.
A steadfast believer in God, Family, and Country, Curtis lived with passion and an unmistakable sense of humor. He served his country in the United States Navy as a Vietnam veteran and later in the United States Army.
Curtis was a true Harley enthusiast. A charter member of Master Link, Curtis remained loyal to his brothers in the club, which was a significant part of his life. When he wasn’t on the open road, he could often be found in a garden, garage, or on the water tubing or fishing.
Above all, Curtis treasured his family. His greatest joy came from being a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and he loved his grandbabies “more than anything in the world.” He loved telling stories, and in his final moments, he held his daughters’ hands as they shared fond, funny memories of a canoe trip he had taken all three of them on together.
Curtis lived by his favorite motto: “Wide open until you see God, then hit the brakes.” His laughter, strength, loyalty, and love will live on in those who knew him.
Curtis is survived by his wife, Angie Bougher; his three daughters, Andrea Wagner and her husband, Jason, Samantha Stone and her husband, Randal, and Sarah Huchteman and her husband, Kris; his eight cherished grandchildren, Madison Wagner, Gabrielle Wagner, Blake Stone, Lillian Stone, Cooper Stone, Gavin NeSmith, Nolan NeSmith, and Maddux NeSmith; and his only great-granddaughter, Lorelai Wagner.
He is also survived by Thelma Bougher, who raised him and whom he lovingly called Mom; his siblings, Sue Garwick, Vernon Bougher, Robert Bougher, Penny Cale, Vanessa Wachlin, Debbie Hopper, and Darcy Stroud; his stepsiblings, Mark, Kate, Virgil, Laurie, Lynn, and Jason; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends he considered family. His friendships were too numerous to name, but each held a special place in his life.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Marilyn Joan Leonard Bougher; his father, Vernon Edward Bougher; and his sister, Joyce Burd.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 7, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Greenlawn North, 3506 N National Avenue Springfield, MO 65803. A graveside service will take place Thursday, October 8, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Cemetery 5201 S. Southwood Rd, Springfield, Missouri 65804. His longtime friend Mike Arico, from the Tribe of Judah, will officiate.
Serving as pallbearers will be Blake Stone, Cooper Stone, Gavin NeSmith, Nolan NeSmith, Maddux NeSmith, Randal Stone, AJ Rogers, and Earl Puryear.
