Cynthia (Cindy) Diane Bethurem, age 74, of Springfield, MO passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2024 in her home. She was born in Chanute Kansas on January 17, 1950 to William Charles Arthur and Rena A. (Walker) Arthur. Cindy was the second of four girls. She grew up and went to school in Camdenton, MO. Spending her summers and every chance she got in or on the lake as the family owned a resort on the Lake of the Ozarks and their home was lakeside. In 1967, Cindy married David Paul Bethurem. They welcomed their first child, Paul in December 1967, their second, Jennifer in 1969 and their third Thomas in 1970. In 1977 she attended beauty school in Springfield, MO and graduated on May 24, 1977. She worked in various beauty shops in west Springfield until she opened Cindy’s Family Hair Fashions on the corner of Mt Vernon and Scenic. She did hair at that shop until around 2010 when she moved to a smaller shop on College St. In 2012, due to health issues she retired from her profession. In Cindy’s late life she enjoyed taking care of her great-granddaughter, visiting with her family and watching cooking competitions.
She is preceded in death by her parents, William & Rena, son, Paul David, and son, Thomas Lee. She is survived by three sisters, Marijo Heider, Cathy Elaine Cumper and Donna Lee Shockley (husband Bob Richardson), daughter, Jennifer Williams (husband Tim), daughter-in-law, Melissa Bethurem, granddaughters, Angela Grant (husband Tanner) and Elizabeth Dianne Bethurem, and a host of family and friends.
A gathering to celebrate Cindy’s life will be held at Greenlawn Funeral Home North, Springfield, MO, Saturday, March 30, 2024, 1-3 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
