Cynthia Lynn Schaffer (Barclay) passed away peacefully on July 11, 2026, in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of 76.
Cindy was born on April 26, 1950, in Springfield, Missouri, to Harold and Emogene Barclay. A lifelong resident of the Springfield area, she built a life centered on faith, family, friendship, and serving others.
Cindy was the devoted wife of Mike Schaffer for 46 wonderful years. Together they built a loving family that remained the joy and focus of her life. Their years together were filled with love, devotion, cherished memories, and a shared commitment to their family.
She is lovingly remembered by her children: Ryan Schaffer and his wife, Jill; Aaron Schaffer; Jamie Schaffer and his wife, Stephanie; Mark Schaffer and his wife, Astrid; and Janna Cox and her husband, Jeff.
She was a proud and deeply loving grandmother to Valarie Schaffer, Jordan Straits and her husband, Ryan, Taylor Tocci and her husband, Bart, Seth Greenbank, Madison Elizalde and her husband, Rene, Syera Schaffer, Luke Schaffer, Dylan Schaffer and his wife, Rebecca, Nykki Schaffer, Lincoln Schaffer, and Xander Schaffer. She was also blessed with six great-grandchildren: Riley Schaffer, Audrey Straits, Bennett Straits, Louis Tocci, Kenneth Tocci, and Margaret Tocci.
She is survived by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brother Greg Barclay, and sister Brenda Barclay and her niece and nephews Christy Zeeman ( Steve) Brian Barclay, and Daniel Barclay (Selena). She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Mike Schaffer, and her parents, Harold and Emogene Barclay.
Cindy dedicated many years to the Missouri Division of Employment Security, faithfully serving the people of her community throughout her career and following her retirement.
Her Christian faith was an important part of her life. She placed her faith in Jesus Christ as her Savior in her youth. She was a member of Bellview Baptist Church and later High Street Baptist Church. She also found joy in serving others by volunteering to pack backpacks filled with school supplies and food for children in need.
More than anything, Cindy cherished her family. She loved gathering everyone together, traveling, taking cruises, preserving precious memories through the countless photographs stored on her computer, and spending time playing games with those she loved. Her greatest happiness came from simply being with her family and celebrating life’s everyday moments.
Those who knew Cindy will remember her as fun-loving, fiercely loyal, nurturing, and always ready to lend a helping hand. She had a warm smile, a caring heart, and a gift for making people feel welcomed and loved. Her kindness, encouragement, and unwavering devotion to her family leave a legacy that will continue for generations.
Though her family grieves her absence, they rejoice in the many wonderful memories she created and the love she so generously gave. She will be deeply missed and forever treasured by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, July 14th from 1-2 PM at Greenlawn Funeral Home South in Springfield, with a funeral service following at 2 PM. We will proceed in processional out to Brighton Cemetery for a small graveside service as well to conclude.
