You are such a large and strong part of my memories. You are loved and will be remembered fondly. Thank you for everything Dale.

Dale was a friend who rented a room in my home years ago in St. Pete and shared in the household responsibilities until he was able to afford his own place next door. I am a biologist and we shared the house with my iguanas and his cat Shredder that he got while attempting to adopt a cat at a shelter. A kitten was refused by the shelter while he was waiting because it had an eye problem and Dale volunteered to take it from the donor. This is one of the few times that an outreach to someone in need didn't get us in trouble! Shredder grew up with the large lizards and I have many pictures of him dining from the same bowl or just hanging out with them. When Dale decided to return to Springfield I took Shredder back into the fold with his bum eye always looking like a knowing wink. Like Dale, he survived his handicap and got along in the world. Dale had made the good decision to leave St. Pete because of the negative influences that made his sobriety difficult. I was saddened to hear that they caught up with him after all this time. He worked jobs with me and we had a running joke that I would give him a quarter when he made a suggestion that I could use. He would promptly explain the "treat" to the client with a grin that let you know that he appreciated the humor. I spoke with him a few months back and it was good to reflect on old times. In spite of his setbacks, his heart reached out to help others even if he didn't have the means, just like with good ole Shreader.. Thank you sister Barbara for staying in touch with me.
