David Perry Anderson, 94, passed away on April 20, 2026, at his home in Springfield.
He was born in Springfield on June 10, 1931, to Elmer E. “Dutch” and Berniece E. (Steen) Anderson. He married Carlene (Day) Anderson on July 1, 1961, in Taneyville, Mo.
David was an Eagle Scout, on the high school debate team and a newspaper route carrier. He graduated from Springfield Senior High School (Central) in 1949. He briefly attended Drury College and SMS before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force. He served during the Korean War from 1950 to 1954. Following his military service, he enrolled at the University of Missouri-Columbia, graduating in 1956. He graduated from the Law School at the University in 1958. David practiced law in Springfield and served as an assistant prosecuting attorney. He was District Director of the U.S. Census in 1960. He was elected as an Associate Circuit Judge in 1982 and then as a Circuit Judge in Greene County and served in that capacity from 1984 until he retired in 1998. He then served as a senior judge until 2004.
He was a past president of the Southeast Lions Club in Springfield. He was a member of the Missouri Bar Association and the Springfield Metropolitan Bar Association. During retirement he was a volunteer tutor with the Ozarks Literacy Council. He was a deacon and elder of the Presbyterian Church, a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church; and served as Moderator of John Calvin Presbytery in 2007-2008.
David was preceded in death by his loving wife Carlene, his parents, his two sisters Nancy Lawler and Sally Anderson, and his niece Kerry. He is survived by his son Kyle Anderson and wife Kim of Springfield; his daughter Rebecca Anderson and husband David Crighton of Richmond, VA; and his grandchildren Kiersten Anderson, Riegen Myers, and George “Joe” Crighton; two step grandchildren Charles Payne and Jessiah Bowers; a brother Gerry of Lee’s Summit and a number of nieces and nephews and other relatives and well as many friends.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Monday, April 27, 2026 at Trinity Presbyterian Church. Funeral services will immediately follow at 11:00 am. Burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery under the direction of Greenlawn Funeral Home South. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
