Donald Warren Freeman, 60, of Springfield, MO, passed away on August 10, 2013, in his home. Don was born on May 26, 1953, in St. Louis, MO, to Vinson and Florence Freeman.
He graduated from Southwest MO State Univ. (now Missouri State Univ.) with honors with a degree in Industrial Technology/Electricity-Electronics. He retired from City Utilities after 21 years of service.
Don was fascinated with music and songs, amazing his friends and family with his knowledge and record collections. He loved talking about musicians, bands, songs, and the brief time he traveled with the Ozark Mountain Daredevils. He was a caring, thoughtful, and spiritual man who helped many others over the years through his volunteer efforts in community organizations as well as through his church, Unity of Springfield.
He loved his family and friends, the outdoors, hiking, the St. Louis Cardinals, his motorcycle, and his dogs. He was a devoted father (even coaching his daughter’s softball team for years), and he always looked forward to traveling to new places each year with his family. He had a great spirit of adventure, and he will be missed.
Don is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Cynthia, and their beloved daughter, Natalie (boyfriend Jake Hecht), as well as his parents, Florence and Vinson Freeman; his brother, Jim, sister-in-law, Sandra, and niece, Anne; mother- and father-in-law, Louise and Robert Huitt; brother-in-law, Dan Huitt (Bea), and their children, Annie and Robert; sister-in-law, Laurie (Rick) Fisher, their son, Luke (Tracy), and great-niece, Whitney; plus a host of cousins, other family members, and friends.
A memorial service will be held at Greenlawn East (3540 E. Seminole, Springfield, 65809) on Saturday, August 17, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to your favorite group or organization in honor of Don’s generosity.
