Donald R. Vaughan, of Springfield, passed away of a sudden illness January 21, 2011. He was born to Veryl and Russell Vaughan on July 5, 1935 and married Jo Nell Cox on March 16, 1957. He was a beloved father, grandfather, friend, selfless and loving soul to all he knew.
Don was preceded in death by his wife, Jo Nell; father, Russell Leonard Vaughan; sister, Deloris Vaughan; and son-in-law, Jay Underwood.
He is survived by his 99 year-old mother, Veryl Vaughan, whom he loved dearly, his wife Shirley Vaughan; twin daughters, Jan Guin and husband Stan, and Jean Vaughan Underwood-Bradley and husband Mike; grandchildren, Clint Underwood, Emily and husband Mitch Friend, Whitney Guin and Jill Underwood-Dickey; great-grandchildren, Addelin and Clayton Friend and Ethan Dickey; step-children, David and Pam McCowan, their children Kallie and Josh, Teresa and Danny McCurry, and their children Cody and Katie; two sisters, Donna Stiver and her husband Clarence, Sammy Sue Williams and her husband Joe; and two brothers, Dennis and his wife Sandra and Anthony and his wife Dee Dee; and many nieces and nephews.
Don was a 1953 graduate of Central High School and served in the Naval Reserve. He was in the grocery business all his life where he worked over the years for Consumers Markets, Fleming Foods, Schnuck’s, Co-Owner of Harter House, Smitty’s, and was currently employed by UMB bank.
Services will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, January 25, 2011 in Greenlawn Funeral Home East with Hosea Bilyeu officiating. Burial will be in Holland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Monday, in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or donors choice.
