Donna Jean Cox, age 76, of Springfield, passed away peacefully in her home on January 31, 2023. Donna was born to Roy and Betty (Taylor) Perdue on February 22, 1946, in Springfield. She was raised in Springfield and graduated from Parkview High School in 1964. Donna was united in marriage to Richard on August 9, 1964, at Schweitzer United Methodist Church. The couple shared 53 years of marriage before Richard’s untimely passing on December 22, 2017. Donna and Richard were blessed with four children, eight grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. Donna’s grandchildren were her whole world and brought her immense joy and satisfaction.
Donna retired from the Walmart on west Sunshine after 26 years of dedicated service. She was a beloved department manager who served countless employees and customers with kindness and respect. Her commitment to customer service was enviable by any standard. When not working, Donna had many interests and pastimes. She enjoyed spending time with her pets, especially her poodle, Missy. She was known for making beautiful hand-crafted quilts that were generously gifted to her family and friends. Donna was also an exceptional gardener who took great pride in her vibrant flowerbeds. Nothing however, provided Donna with more fulfillment than spending time with each of her grandchildren. To quote her daughter, “mom was all about her grandkids.” Donna maintained a fully stocked refrigerator and freezer with her grandchildren’s favorite snacks and drinks, in particular, corndogs, Capri Sun drinks, and Nestle Push Ups! Donna and Richard have left their grandchildren with fond memories of travel and adventure. Each summer, Donna and Richard would plan memorable trips to national parks, historical sites, battlefields, and many other places of special interest. These vacation experiences are part of a loving legacy that will last a lifetime in the hearts of their grandchildren.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Betty Perdue; husband, Richard Cox; and brother, Michael Perdue. She is survived by her children, Betty Palmer, Wendy Jones and husband Jamie, Tammy Cox and life partner Shannon Shank, Richard Cox and wife Erica; grandchildren, Kristin, Wesley, Christopher, Jacob, Josie, Raven, Cierra, John; great grandchildren, Hunter, Cody, Anna Lee, Bowen; brother, Jim Perdue and wife Linda; sister, Gail Boatman; and a very special family friend, Nancy Service.
A private, invitation-only, memorial service is currently being planned by the family. Donations can be made in Donna’s memory to the Humane Society of Southwest Missouri (3161 West Norton Road, Springfield, MO 65802, 417-833-2526).
