Doris Ann Groves, age 85, of Branson MO, passed away November 15, 2020, at Forsyth Nursing and Rehab. She was born June 11, 1935 in Wasola , MO, to Leeman and Lula (Brown) Hicks, who precede her in death.
Doris was the Salutatorian of her 1952 Ava, MO graduating class and continued her education at what was then known as Southwest Missouri State College. On March 4, 1955 she married Richard B. Groves, who survives.
After her husband’s position with the US Army Corps of Engineers brought them to Branson in 1968, she began employment as Secretary of Branson Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). She continued her employment there for 25 years, where she also served as Administrative Assistant, Program Developer, Sunday School Teacher, Deacon and Elder.
Following retirement in 1997, she volunteered at Christian Action Ministries, Taney Hills Library, Skaggs Community Auxiliary, Loaves and Fishes, Scouts, Salvation Army, Clothe A Child, By the Way Thrift Store, Jesus Was Homeless and Lakes Area Counseling Service (now part of Burrell Mental Health).
In addition to her family, employment and volunteerism, she also found time over the years for her favorite pastimes and organizations: tennis, waterskiing, painting, reading, Tuesday Bridge Club and PEO.
Doris was a devoted wife, loving mother and adoring grandmother, loving them all with her whole heart, and they in turn, loved her dearly. In addition to her husband of 65 years, she is survived by her sons, Richard B. Groves II (Barbara), of Hollister, MO, and Kirk Groves (Becky) of Branson, MO; one daughter, Jana Lindner (Mark) of Reeds Spring, MO, six grandchildren, Tara Groves Harris, Jared Lindner, Trista Groves, Brynna Howell, Riley Lindner, Brandon Groves and seven great-grandchildren. Also surviving is her brother, Troy L. Hicks (Corene) of Nixa MO, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Private services will be held at Greenlawn Funeral Home, Branson MO with interment at MO Veteran’s Cemetery, Springfield, MO.
