Doris Marie Kitterman, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2026, at the age of 93, in her lifelong hometown of Springfield, MO. Born on February 24, 1933, Doris filled her years with love, laughter, and cherished memories that will be held close by all who knew her.
A graduate of Springfield High School, Doris dedicated her career as a dietician at Mercy Hospital, where she touched the lives of countless patients. She was united in marriage to Bert Kitterman in Springfield, MO. Outside of her professional life, she was a vibrant spirit who loved to indulge in her hobbies. Doris had a passion for watching Westerns, solving word searches, and spoiling her grandchildren, always putting family at the heart of her joyful existence.
Known for her love of Dr. Pepper and her spirited nature, she often reminisced about her youthful days racing at the fairgrounds. Her zest for life echoed the essence of joy, and her warm heart will be deeply missed by all, especially her children, Kathy Tuter and husband Mike; Ed Kitterman and wife Paulette; and Steve Kitterman and wife Marsha; 8 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren, with one on the way; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends. Doris was preceded in death by: her husband,Bert Kitterman: parents, Robert and Ola Versaw; two brothers, Robert Versaw and Don Versaw; and one sister, Margaret Goodman; and one granddaughter, Kristy Sawyer.
Doris’s family invites all who loved her to join them in celebrating her remarkable life. A visitation will be held at Greenlawn Funeral Home North in Springfield, MO, on May 20, 2026, from 6:00 PM- 8:00 PM. Family and friends will gather to share memories and honor a life well-lived.
A graveside service will take place on May 21, 2026, at 10:00 AM, at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens,3506 North National Ave, Springfield, MO 65803. We invite all to come together to pay their respects and celebrate the joyful spirit that was Doris Marie Kitterman. May she rest in peace, remembered always for her infectious laughter and endless love.
