Dorothy Darlene Ross, age 85, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2026, joining her beloved husband and son in heaven.
Dorothy was born on February 26, 1940, in Rich Hill, Missouri, to Loyd and Estelle Starner. She spent her early years in Rich Hill, Missouri and later Kansas City, where, at the age of 15, she met the love of her life, Robert T. Ross, through her best friend—who also happened to be his sister. Their love story moved quickly and faithfully; they were married just six months later in May, beginning a devoted marriage that lasted 66 years, until Robert’s passing in 2022.
Dorothy was a devout Christian and a devoted stay-at-home mother who dedicated her life to raising her family. She lovingly raised four children and always put her faith and family first. Her home was filled with love, care, and quiet strength, and she leaves behind a legacy of unwavering devotion, kindness, and grace.
She was preceded in death by her father Loyd Starner, her mother Estelle Wagner, her beloved husband Robert T. Ross, and her son Robert E. Ross.
Dorothy is survived by her daughters Karen Ross, Diana Cunningham (Lloyd), Shelly Dreyer (Mark), and her daughter-in-law Margie Ross; her grandchildren Misty Philipp (Paul), Robert J. Ross (Jaime), Ashley Kauppila (Tim), Lindsey Cunningham, and Marley Dreyer; her great-grandchildren Josh Philipp (Kerie), Jessica Philipp, Isaiah Ross, Ewan Ross, Grace Kauppila, Eleanor Kauppila, and Amelia Kauppila; and her great-great-grandchildren NovaLee Philipp, Vega Philipp, and Opel Philipp.
Dorothy’s life was a testament to love, faith, and family. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
