Dorothy Eleanor Johnson, 88, passed away peacefully in her home in Springfield, Missouri, on April 6, 2021. She was born June 9, 1932, in Chicago, Illinois to Frank and Frances Barr. Dorothy was a stay-at-home mom for 25 years before returning to work as a Certified Nurse Assistant where she became a long-time employee of St. John’s Mercy Hospital before her retirement. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, working crossword puzzles and was an ardent Jeopardy fan, loving nothing more than tuning in each evening to play along with Alex Trebek.
She is survived by her brother, Charles “Charlie” Barr, seven children, David (Eunice) Johnson, Wayne Johnson, Barry Johnson, Robin (Frank) Redwing, Carla (Kent) Whittaker, Monica (John) Morgan, and Laura Johnson; grandchildren, Diamond Gardner, Tiffany Gardner and Josh Gardner; Jessica Johnson, Bob Johnson, and Michelle Johnson Hause; Joe Whittaker and Casey Whittaker, and Rachel Morgan, as well as her great-grandchildren. She was much loved by all and will be greatly missed.
A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, June 11, 2021, at Greenlawn Funeral Home, 441 W. Battlefield Road, Springfield, Missouri.
