Dorothy J. Farrell, 64, went to be with her Lord and Saviour on November 19, 2011. She was born June 27th, 1947, in Chicago, IL, to Stanley and Pauline Kauffman. At age 19, Dorothy won a prestigious award for her illustration in “Seventeen” magazine and later graduated from the American Academy of Art of Chicago in 1968. She was recruited by Hallmark cards of Kansas City where she supervised and mentored numerous artists while designing hundreds of greeting cards. Some of this art was featured on the “Hallmark Hall of Fame”. In 1972 she met and married the love of her life, Larry. Upon the arrival of their first child, Doroty left her job to be a stay at home mom. In 1981 she joined the staff of DaySpring cards in Arkansas. She later formed her own company “The Cherish Collection” and sold her prints and cards state-wide. She also worked as an art consultant with many ppublishers in designing book covers and illustrations. Dorothy had another gift of helping young people in their struggles with life. She was a second Mom to numerous people who passed through her doors. Always a giver, Dorothy warmed the hearts of many. Dorothy was a proud member of James River Assembly.
She is survived by her husband, Larry, son Ethan Farrell, daughter Desiree Farrell and granddaughter Emma Garner all of Springfield, MO, sister Judy and husband Herb Hedgepeth of Lumberton, NC, nieces Rebecca and John Berdeau, Laurinburg NC, Amy and Jim Mingus, Ft. Carson, CO, Sarah and Jamie Pittman, Lumberton, NC., and nine nieces and nephews, Ian, Alex, Aaron and Avery Berdeau, nathan, Zoe, and Luke Mingus, and Karla-Beth and Emily Ann Pittman, and many friends.
Funeral services will be at 12:30 p.m. Friday, November 25th, visitation Thursday, November 24th, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Greenlawn Funeral Home East, Springfield, MO. Burial at Missouri Veterans Cemetery.
