Dorothy McMillan, 83, passed away July 9, 2011, in Springfield, MO, surrounded by her family. Dorothy was born December 7, 1927, in Springfield, to Samuel and Mabel Cates.
She married Arlin “Lin” McMillan in 1964 and they spent 30 years together before his death in 1994. Dorothy and Lin enjoyed traveling, especially to tropical locations. They took many trips to Florida and the Caribbean over the years.
Dorothy was a member of First & Calvary Presbyterian and was very involved in her church and community. A gifted seamstress and knitter, she spent many hours making baby clothing and blankets for Crosslines. Dorothy also volunteered at St. John’s hospital, where she worked in the gift shop and made some wonderful friends.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Lin; her parents; and, brother Robert Cates. She is survived by her son Thomas and Kay McMillan, Kansas City, granddaughters Courtney and Rachel McMillan, and numerous friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Dorothy’s memory to Crosslines, P.O. Box 3947, Springfield MO 65808-3947. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 14 at noon, followed by services at 1:00 p.m. at Greenlawn North, 3506 N. National Avenue, Springfield. (417) 833-1111.
