Dottie White was born on October 13, 1941, in Charleston, West Virginia to Charlie and Dorothy Taylor. She was a real-life coal miners’ daughter. She lived in the days of poodle skirts and bobby socks. She spent all of her free time dancing the jitterbug. She met Jim White of Rand, West Virginia in 1955 on a blind date, set up by her cousin. They married on June 14, 1958.
In the fall of 1959 they moved to Tampa, Florida. In February of 1960, they had their first and only child, Cheryl. When Cheryl was three weeks old, they started going to the beach every day until she started kindergarten. They sent Cheryl to a little church school. Dottie was not a Christian at that time. In 1965 on a visit from the Pastor, she was saved.
In 1970 they moved to Springfield, Missouri for Jim to attend Baptist Bible College. After graduation they moved to Miami, Florida to work at New Testament Baptist Church. Their ministry there was from 1973 – 1979. During that time, she taught kindergarten and then in the school finance office.
In 1979 they were called back to Springfield to serve at High Street Baptist Church. They served there for 22 years. After a short time, they were called to Eudora Baptist Church, serving 13 years.
Dottie served faithfully alongside Jim in every area of ministry. Some of their most precious times of service happened in their home. Dottie had the gift of hospitality, and they welcomed hundreds of people into their home over the years. She loved serving others and she loved her family well. Above all she loved the Lord and was grateful to the very end for the life He blessed her with. They spent almost 65 years together, living their best life. Over 50 of those in the ministry. She has left a beautiful legacy for everyone who knew her.
Dottie is survived by her daughter, Cheryl; grandson, Colby and wife Christin; granddaughter Cassidy and husband Jeff; ten great-grandchildren, Madilyn, Cyra, Mia, Cruz, Croix, Cayo, Coco, Coast, Copelynn, and Cacia. Her family was her joy! She was loved deeply and will be greatly missed. This absence is just temporary. We are grateful for the promise that we will be together again.
