ANGEL DIAZ left a message on April 23, 2015:
My dear friend,Sgt. Ervin was a 1983-1984 Grenada & Beirut, Lebanon Combat Veteran. This was an outstanding 0351, M47 Dragon, Anti-tank Gunner and Section Leader with a heart of gold. He would do anything for another Marine in need. When I was a young Marine with BLT. 2/8, Douglas took the time to help me learn the Dragon Weapon System. Everyone respected him and listened closely when he spoke. He was also a quite country boy who kept to himself and loved to read. You will be greatly missed Douglas by all those who knew and served with you. May God keep you and your family safe. Semper Fi my brother dragon and thank you for your honorable service to our nation and to your Marines. Douglas was buried with full military honors at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, in Springfield, Missouri. I hope to one day go see him again and pay him my respects. Until we meet again devildog.
