Dr. Thomas F. Zimmerman III, affectionately known as “Bud” to his family and friends, a respected administrator in the hospital industry and a pioneer in satellite training for doctors, passed away peacefully at the age of 86, on June 14,2024, in Las Vegas, NV. Bud was born on February 11, 1938, in South Bend, IN to his loving parents, Dr. Thomas and Elizabeth Zimmerman. He was a dedicated husband to Lynn Zimmerman, an adoring father to Tom, Jeremy, and Ashley; and a cherished grandparent to his nine grandchildren. Bud’s dedicationto his family mirrored his commitment to his work, where he used his extensive education, including a Doctorate from the University of Oregon.
A proud graduate of Central High School and the first graduating class at Evangel, where Bud went on to achieve a Bachelor’s degree, a Master’s degree from the University of Missouri, and a prestigious Doctorate, from the University of Oregon. His groundbreaking work in satellite training revolutionized medical education, leaving a lasting impact on the healthcare industry.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Bud had a passion for music and cherished spending time at the lake. His love for life and unwavering dedication to his pursuits inspired those around him.
He is survived by his wife, Lynn Zimmerman; two sons, Tom Zimmerman and wife Camile and Jeremy Zimmerman and wife Tracey; daughter, Ashley Patterson and husband Darren; nine grandchildren; a sister Elizabeth “Betty” Tinlin; and a host of friends and family.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Thomas Zimmerman II, Elizabeth H. Zimmerman, an infant brother, Charles Zimmerman, and brother, David Zimmerman.
In honor of his remarkable life, a Graveside Service will be held at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens on August 19, 2024, at 1:00 pm, where family and friends will gather to celebrate his legacy. Dr. Thomas F. Zimmerman III will be remembered for his contributions, kindness, and unwavering dedication to improving healthcare for future generations.
