Earl Edison Reed, 92, of Springfield Mo, went to be with our lord and savior on December 14, 2011. Earl was born to Curtis and Olive Reed in Brighton Missouri on October 9, 1919.
His parents, Curtis and Olive, a sister, Doris and recently his only brother Glenn Reed preceded him in death.
Earl served his country in World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War before retiring from the United States Air Force in 1970 with 24 years of service. He was then employed by the United States Postal Service and retired after 14 years. He was a member of the Gate of the Temple Masonic Lodge for over 60 years, The Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United State, The National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association and was a member of St. Johns United Church of Christ for 57 years. He loved his church and spending time with his family. Over the years he enjoyed dancing, skating and bowling.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Irene, two daughters, Debbie Warkins and her husband Mike of Chicago, Danetta Cannady and her husband Bill of Springfield; 2 grandsons, Ryan Warkins of Chicago IL, and Jeremy Cannady and his wife Caitie of San Angelo, TX; and 3 granddaughters, Jennifer Ruddell and her husband Ben of Phoenix AZ, Deanna Warkins of Chicago IL and Jessie Cannady who is currently residing and teaching in Qingdao, China; and two great grandsons Isaac and Joshua Ruddell of Phoenix.
Memorial graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, December 19, 2011, at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, December 18, 2011, with a memorial service at 3:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Chapel United Church of Christ, or to the Oxford Hospice.
