Edgar Joseph “Ed” Woods, age 84, of Springfield, MO, passed away at home, peacefully in his sleep, Saturday, May 26, 2012. He was born Sunday, April 1, 1928, in Elmdale, KS, to John F. and Margaret A. (Layman) Woods.
Ed married Wanda M. Winnegar on June 6, 1951, at Thomasville Church in Birch Tree, MO. They would have celebrated their 61st anniversary this year. Ed served in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 to 1954. He worked as a car salesman in the Springfield area for over 50 years and was known as “Friendly Ed” with his trademark cowboy hat and boots. Ed was a member of Fruitland Road Country Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and a sister.
Ed is survived by his wife, Wanda, daughter Gail and her husband Dick Jackson; granddaughter Tabitha and her husband Rich, grandson Joe and his wife Lisa, great grandchildren, a sister and brother and many nieces and nephews.
Memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
Inurnment will be at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield, at a later date.
