Edith Lois Richardson, age 92, of Springfield, Mo., passed away Friday, May 6, 2011 in Ozarks Community Hospital. She was born September 3, 1918, in Springfield, Mo., to William and Cora (Southard) Funkhouser.
Edith was a graduate of Willard High School and Southwest Missouri State Teachers College. She was an elementary school teacher in the Springfield area at Schuyler, Olive, New Hope, and Bowerman schools. During World War II Edith moved to Wichita, Kan., where she worked at Beech Aircraft. There she met her husband of 63 years, Loyd. Following the war, she taught in Wichita for 24 years. In 1982 they returned to Springfield where they owned and operated Crystal Cave. For many years Edith was a member of West Side United Methodist Church, Wichita, Kan., Business and Professional Women, and Lady Bears Fast Break Club.
She is survived by her husband, Loyd; a daughter, Barbara Blowers and her husband, George; son, Kenneth Richardson and his wife Shirley; and a grandson, Sean Blowers, all of Springfield.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., on Tuesday in Greenlawn Funeral Home North. Reverend Lori Lampert, Schweitzer UMC, officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Comfort Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday evening from 5 to 7 p.m., in the funeral home.
