Edmond Gott, age 97 completed his amazing journey on earth Thursday, Sept. 22. Ed was born 11-12-13 in Springfield, Mo. to William and Gertrude Gott and attended St. Joseph’s school. He graduated from Central High in 1931 and immediately joined the US Navy where he served a total of 9 years during 2 different periods. During his first hitch, Ed was a bugler at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Because of Pearl Harbor, Ed re-enlisted and was the official bugler on the USS Maryland and USS Columbus.
After the Navy, Ed made his career in sales and worked for three different automotive accessories companies. He retired from Arthur Fulmer manufacturing in 1978.
Ed lived the last 30 years of his life at Indian Point on Tablerock Lake where he became a fishing legend. He also spent an abundance of time at the Kimberling City Senior Center with many friends.
A lifelong member of the Catholic Church, Ed’s faith in God and sense of attempting to always do the right thing earned him countless friends from all walks of life. His ever-present smile and ability to converse with almost anyone about anything made him the life of any party or get together.
Ed was preceded in death by his father William and mother Gertrude, his first wife Jessie, his second wife Catherine, and his oldest son Joseph. He is survived by his daughters Janice (Penny) Ricketts and her husband Cliff, Republic, Mary (Mimi) Gott, Springfield and his son John Gott and his wife Sherri, Ozark. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren.
He will be missed immensely by his family and friends however, after almost 98 years on earth it was his time to join God and the loved ones who preceded him in passing and in his last words spoken his work on earth was “finished”.
The family would like to give a Special Thanks to the management and all of the employees of the Manor at Elfindale who made Ed’s final months comfortable.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday Sept. 26 at Greenlawn Funeral Home East, 3540 E. Seminole, Spfd. MO. A funeral Mass will be celebrated by Fr. Thomas Reidy at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday Sept. 27 in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 1115 N. Campbell, Spfd. with burial to follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
