Edna Deaton passed away peacefully on May 29, 2023 in Springfield, Missouri. She was 90 years old. Born in 1932 in Fair Grove, Missouri, she lived a full life of service and generosity. She began her career as a mail clerk and retired as Postmaster for the US Postal Service in Everton, Missouri in 1990 after 31 years of service.
Leading the Sew and Sew Quilters of Macedonia Baptist Church, Edna could always be found with a quilt on her lap as she prepared items for auction at the Ozarks Berry Festival, benefiting the Missouri Baptist Children’s Home. Edna also volunteered as a tutor for the Ozarks Literacy Council, serving on their board of directors, and she was a founding contributor to Branches at Brookline, a residential home for developmentally disabled adults.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Merle Deaton, as well as her parents and siblings. Edna is survived by her daughter, Vanda Chism, granddaughters Courtney Hiett, Dr. Nichole Lemmon, and Brandy Campbell, and great-granddaughters Harriet Lemmon, Caroline Campbell, and Victoria Campbell.
Funeral services will be held at Greenlawn Funeral Home East on Saturday, June 3 at 10am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Edna’s honor to the Missouri Baptist Children’s Home, Branches at Brookline.a
