Edward Charles Lechner, Jr. passed away on July 28, 2026, at the age of 59.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Valerie; his stepdaughter, Abigael; his siblings, Patricia Plotz and Debbie (Robert) Meyer of St. Louis, Missouri; his nephews, Andrew, Thomas, and Matthew Meyer;  his nieces Macy and Chelsea Plotz. He loved each of them dearly.

Ed was born on June 7, 1967, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Ed and Patsy Lechner. He studied Business at Maryville University and had a lifelong love of all things mechanical. He worked primarily as a corporate and government recruiter and most recently was employed by A.O. Smith.

Ed lived a colorful life, despite being an aficionado of the color gray. He was known for his love of fixing things and never met a home improvement project he didn’t like. He even taught himself electrical and HVAC skills. When people commented on his extraordinary mechanical abilities, he would always joke that “any monkey could fix it.” We usually replied that he must have a very impressive monkey army.

Ed was also known for his wonderful sense of humor, his knack for inventing new words and phrases (“vegetable meat,” anyone?), his unwavering belief that Pink Floyd was the greatest band of all time, his playful teasing, and his deep love of animals.

Above all, Ed loved the Lord and was always striving to become a better Christian, a better husband, a better father, a better friend, and a better brother. His faith guided his life and the way he loved those around him.

Ed especially enjoyed traveling with his wife, particularly anywhere they could see the ocean. Clearwater Beach held a special place in his heart while visiting his dear friends, Rob and Dee. He is also survived by his four beloved cats: Hachi, Lily, Gracie, and Tilly, who were endlessly loved and thoroughly spoiled.

Ed will be remembered for his generous heart, his willingness to help anyone in need, his quick wit, and the joy he brought to those who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed.

Funeral services celebrating Ed’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at Greenlawn Funeral Home East, 3540 E. Seminole St., in Sprinfield.
