Mr. Edward “Ed” Cloyd, age 94 of Bolivar, MO, passed away Thursday, October 29, 2009, in his home. He was born April 10, 1915, near Polk, MO, to Earl and Coessie (Thomas) Cloyed. At the age of 17 he entered the C.C.C. for three years. He was united in marriage to Florence DeGraffenreid December 10, 1935, and to this union two sons were born. He was instrumental in starting the Bolivar Golf Club, and was a lifelong member. He was a member of the Calvary Missionary Baptist Church of Bolivar.
His parents; his wife of 67 years Florence Cloyd; his sister Naomi Emory; and his brother Fred Cloyed precede him in death.
He is survived by his two sons: Gary Cloyd and his wife Mary Ann, and Derral Cloyd and his wife Brenda all of Bolivar, MO; six grandchildren: Mike Cloyd and wife Diane, Dee Cloyd and wife Terri, and Brent Cloyd all of Bolivar, MO, Kathy Stunkel of Lebanon, MO, Nicholas Cloyd of Springfield, MO, and Ian Cloyd of Weatherby, MO; nine great grandchildren, and ten great great grandchildren; a special niece Jean Bess of Bolivar, MO; his close companion Beatrice Wilson of Bolivar; as well as several other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, October 31, 2009, at Pitts Chapel. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Nicholas Cloyd, Ian Cloyd, Dee Cloyd, Brent Cloyd, Mike Cloyd, Matt Stunkel, Jared Cloyd, Dustin Cloyd, and Derik Cloyd. Friends and family may call at their own convenience (today) Friday, October 30th from 12:00 noon to 8:00 PM. In lieu of plants and flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Bolivar Golf Club, or the Polk County Senior Center.
