Dean Stumbaugh, 90, went home to be with the Lord at 2 pm on Sunday, February 17, 2013 at Cox South Hospital in Springfield, MO after a short illness.
He was born October 5, 1922 in Coffeyville, KS to Wayne and Jennie (Gibson) Stumbaugh. He graduated from Coffeyville High School in 1940. Dean was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Springfield, MO.
Dean was a World War II veteran, serving in the Army Air Corps 8th Air Force from 1942-1945. He was stationed in England during 1944-1945. Dean was united in marriage to Jean McCormick on March 15, 1942. Together they raised three children, which was his proudest accomplishment. Dean & Jean celebrated their 70th anniversary on March 15, 2012 in Springfield, MO with their entire family. Another highlight of Dean’s life was when his son Don accompanied him on the Ozarks Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. in October, 2010.
Dean is survived by his wife Jean and their three children, Steve Stumbaugh of Topeka, KS, Don Stumbaugh of Eudora, KS, and Jane (Mrs. Gary) Carden of Battlefield, MO. He enjoyed three grandchildren, Chris-Anne (Mrs. Jeremy) Crabtree of Springfield, MO, Stephany (Mrs. Rick) Kuhlman of Topeka, KS, and Tanner Dean Stumbaugh, Lawrence, KS. He is also survived by three precious great-grandchildren, Carson Crabtree, Cameron Crabtree, and Emma Kuhlman.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 22, 2013 at 11 am at Wesley United Methodist Church in Springfield, MO with Rev. Jim Massey officiating. A visitation will be held prior to the service at 10 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church in memory of Dean Stumbaugh. Services have been entrusted with Greenlawn Funeral Home South.
