Edwin J. Johnson Edwin J. Johnson, of Springfield, went to the loving arms of his wife and Jesus on Monday, May 24 at 6:30 a.m., with his loving family by his side. He worked for the Frisco Railroad for 37 years as a hydraulic machinist before his retirement in 1977. He was united in marriage to Jewell Mitchem on December 14, 1946. To this union, three sons and three daughters were born. The longest time he and Jewell were apart, after 64 years of marriage, was since her passing 38 days ago. His favorite past time was spending the weekends and summers at the cabin on Table Rock Lake with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jewell Mae; granddaughter, Jessica Prine; son, Darrell Porter; and a sister, Shirley Hart. He is survived by his six children and their spouses, Rick, Duane, Debbie, Cheryl, Jeff, and Robin, all of Springfield; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; two special nieces, Emma and Cass,; special cousin, Ernest Goswick; and special friend and neighbor, Howard Ponder. Graveside memorial services will be on Friday, May 28, at 2 p.m. with Reverend Rocky Ferguson officiating. No visitation is planned. The body has been cremated and reunited as one with the love of his life, Jewell Mae.
