Edwin “Skip” Wilson Jr. was born on March 15, 1940 in Manhattan, Ks to Edwin “Doc” and Jane Wilson. Skip passed peacefully into eternity with Jesus on August 18, 2026.
He is survived by one sister, Joann (Chip) Piehl, one brother, Mike (Marci) Wilson, two sons, Darrel (Lori), Jimmy (Lisa), daughter Kelley (sister golden hair) Kenyon (Gene), 13 grandkids, 30 great grandkids, brother in law, Joe Roncelli, sister in law, Sharon James, nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents Edwin and Jane Wilson, wife Lois Carol Wilson, siblings through marriage, Carmen Harwood, Janet Roncelli, Kathy Suse, Donnel James, Pat Harwood, Gary Suse, Tom Lybarger and grandson Clark Wilson.
Skip earned the rank of Eagle Scout at the age of fifteen and continued to be a supporter of the Boy Scouts throughout his lifetime.
After graduation in 1958, Skip married his high school sweetheart, Carol. They made their first home in Kansas City, Mo where they were both employed with Hallmark. In 1959, they started their family and moved back to Higginsville. Despite his goal of “being a bum” as he was quoted in his high school newspaper, Skip was a hard worker, and a good provider for his family. He was a businessman; from ownership of a service station, trucking company, and an independent insurance agent, Skip knew that customer service was the core of success and he shared that knowledge with his children. Skip enjoyed sprint car racing, boating and traveling with Carol in the lower 48 in their motor home and they made several friends along the way. The grandkid boom in the 1980s brought a new joy to Skip’s and Carol’s life. Summertime fun was swimming at the Cooper Estates pool with grandkids and spending time at the boat on Table Rock lake. Holidays were loud and messy like family gatherings should be. Skip remembered fondly, days of having a high chair on every corner of the table.
Skip always had a story to tell and plenty of folk wisdom. If you knew him, you’re thinking of your favorite one now. These are the things we’ll miss most, but Carol has planned a sibling trip in heaven and Skip is always the driver.
In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to Good Samaritan Boys Ranch, Brighton, Mo or Happy Hollow Bible Camp, Strafford, Mo.
