Elinora Amylee (Brooks) Nicholson peacefully passed away at the age of 84 with her husband, Everette D. Nicholson, and daughter, Estel Nicholson Beresford, by her side at the E. Dene Moore Care Center in Rifle, Colorado on Friday, April 26, 2013.
Elinora was born in Stillwater, Oklahoma to Roy L. Brooks (deceased) and Floy Bohannon Brooks (also deceased). Elinora leaves five siblings, all dear to her: Betty (Brooks/Sanders) Singleton & husband, Marvin of Jefferson City, MO, Paul Brooks & wife, Francis of Nowata, OK, John Brooks & wife, Libby of Fort Worth, Texas, Mary (Brooks) Bryant & husband, Frank of Bedford, Texas, and Esther (Brooks) VanDyck of Tulsa, OK, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Elinora attended Elementary School in Burbank, Oklahoma, graduated from Tahlequah, Oklahoma High School with the honor of Salutatorian in 1946, and graduated from Southwestern Bible College in Waxahachie, Texas as Salutatorian in 1949.
Elinora Brooks and Everette
Dwayne Nicholson were married on June 1, 1949 at the Assembly of God Church in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Elinora assisted her husband in evangelistic outreaches for many years, playing the accordion and singing duets. In the pastorate, Elinora assisted in the services by playing the piano or organ and directing the choir. She was an accomplished musician and taught piano for many years.
Above all, Elinora was committed to serving God with all of her heart, as well as being a devoted wife and mother. Elinora was a very loving person, who was loved my many in return. Her family and friends meant the most to her.
Elinora enjoyed a variety of activities and hobbies throughout her life, including tennis when younger, sewing for her family, embroidery for gifts, hunting, fishing, camping, and especially traveling.
Elinora is survived by her husband of 64 years, Everette D. Nicholson; son E. Steven Nicholson of Chicago, IL; daughter, Estel G. (Nicholson) Beresford of Rifle, CO; grandchildren Jocelyn Joy Beresford of Seattle, WA; Bethany Jean (Nicholson) Elston of Chicago, IL; great-grandson, Ezekiel Sifiso Elston of Chicago, IL; Chelsea Anne Beresford of Asheville, NC; Peter John Nicholson of Chicago, IL; great-granddaughter, Emma Lia Nicholson of Chicago, IL; Christopher Brooks Nicholson of Tillamook, Oregon; great-granddaughter, Juniper Jeanne Nicholson of Tillamook, Oregon. Her five siblings, mentioned above, also survive Elinora.
The visitation and funeral for Elinora Nicholson will be held at the Greenlawn Funeral Home North, 3506 North National, Springfield, Missouri on Wednesday, May 8, 2013 from 6-8:00 PM and Thursday, May 9, 2013 at 1:00 PM, respectively.
