Elizabeth Jane Tomelleri, beloved wife, mother, and devoted Catholic, passed away on March 7th, 2025, at the age of 84. She was born in St. Louis, Missouri and was a Missouri resident for most of her life.
Elizabeth was known for her unwavering faith and dedication to the Catholic Church, where she was an active member throughout her life. She volunteered her time to various church activities and was deeply involved as an Oblate at Clear Creek Monastery as well as a Lady of The Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem. She was a founding member of Springfield’s Catholic Radio Station and remained on their governing board for many years. She founded The Immaculate Conception newspaper, and initiated several scripture study groups, including Little Rock Scripture Study and Cornerstone Scripture Study.
In addition to her spiritual commitments, Elizabeth was a passionate philanthropist who devoted herself to helping others. She supported numerous charitable organizations, focusing on the economically and socially marginalized in Springfield. She worked tirelessly to improve the lives of those in need through her ministry at the US Medical Center for Federal Prisoners and her work with vulnerable young mothers at Life House. Her generous spirit and compassionate nature touched many lives within her community.
Above all, Elizabeth cherished her role as a devoted wife and mother. She is survived by her loving husband, Carlos, and their children, Todd and Erica. Her family was her greatest joy, and she instilled in them the values of love, kindness, and faith.
A visitation, prayer service and reception will be held on Thursday, March 20th at Greenlawn East Funeral Home, 3540 E. Seminole Street, Springfield, MO. Visitation will be from 3:00pm to 5:00pm, with prayer service from 5:00pm to 5:30pm. Family and friends are invited to gather after the service for a reception at Greenlawn East.
Funeral mass will be held at 10:00am on Friday, March 21st at Immaculate Conception Church, 3555 S. Fremont Street, Springfield, MO. Family and friends are invited to gather at Immaculate Conception for a reception after the service to celebrate Elizabeth’s life.
