Lorene peacefully departed this life on May 27 after a short battle with brain cancer at the age of 85. Due to her toughness, she was courageous throughout her illness.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, John E. Phillips; her parents, Gus and Mabel Wieland; and brother, Howard Wieland.
She had a keen sense of humor and made friends wherever she went. She will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Allan Hosier; two sons, Mike Phillips and wife, Judi of Springfield, Karl Phillips and wife, Connie of Georgetown, Texas; and step-daughters, Beverly Delcour and Shirley Hosier. Lorene dearly loved her five grandchildren and three great-grandsons. She will also be missed by several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Lorene believed in helping young people grow as well as those that were less fortunate than she was, which resulted in many volunteer hours helping Greene County 4-H clubs and the Victory Mission.
Her family appreciates and is thankful for all the love and assistance provided by the care providers and staffs of St. Johns Hospital, Mercy Villa and Hospice Compassus.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., Wednesday, June 1 at Greenlawn Funeral Home North with visitation at 12 p.m., prior to the service. Burial will follow in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Springfield.
In lieu of flowers, and Lorene’s compassion for the Victory Mission and children involved in the Greene County 4-H programs, the family suggests contributions to either organization or the charity of your choice.
