Eloise Kathleen Flood, age 95, left her earthly body to be with her Lord and Savior, Thursday, January 25, 2024. She was born September 2, 1928 in St. Louis, MO, in a bungalow provided by the Tiffany’s estate where her parents, Lois and Clifford Gideon, resided and worked. Her mother was Mrs. Tiffany’s private maid, and her father a chauffeur. After leaving Tiffany’s they returned to Nixa, MO where Eloise grew up, then graduated from High School in 1946. She married her high school sweetheart, Clyde Flood, June 27, 1946.
She was active in PTA where she was president for several years. Eloise was a fabulous cook and entertainer and hosted most family gatherings. She was also a talented decorator and seamstress, making all of her and her daughters’ clothes. She loved creating Halloween costumes for her grandchildren as well as costumes for herself, which she wore while performing her readings and skits. In 1986 she played Auntie Em in “The Wizard of Oz” at Springfield Little Theater. Her love for quilting began in 1980. She made hundreds of quilts that she gifted to family, friends, and even her geriatric doctor (Dr Zubair).
Eloise was an active member of Riverdale Baptist Church, Nixa, MO until she moved to Springfield in 1972, then joined Glendale Baptist, later Southgate Baptist, and most recently a member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church.
Eloise treasured being a stay-at-home mom, but in the early 70’s she worked in the education department at SMS (MSU). After leaving SMS, she was the church secretary at Walnut Lawn Church of God until 2006.
Eloise was preceded in death by her parents Lois and Clifford Gideon, her husband Clyde Flood, a half-sister Geneva Lance, two brothers Elmo and Ivan Gideon, son-in-law Chuck Kroeger.
She is survived by her three children, Jennifer Deulen (Steve) Springfield, Brent Flood (NaeAnn) Columbia, MO, Julie Kroeger, Springfield, six grandchildren, Brenna Campbell (Jeff), Josh Kroeger (Dee) both of Springfield, Ryan Flood (Tasha) South Carolina, Carrie Massey, Heather Warden (Keith) both of Kansas City area, Amber Boudreaux, Louisiana, 18 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren, plus a host of nieces and nephews.
We wish to extend a thank you to the staff and residents at Springhouse Village Assisted Living for the love and care shown to mom the past 2-1/2 years.
We also wish to express our sincere thank you to mom’s great grandson, Nathan Mathews, for his unconditional love and hands-on care he gave to his Gammy.
Eloise left a piece of her heart with everyone she met, and she taught us to love well and love Jesus.
A celebration Of Eloise’s life will be at 12pm, Saturday, February 10, 2024 at Greenlawn Funeral Home South, with a visitation from 11 am-12 pm.
