Emmett Oneal Corkren, Jr. passed away at his home in Strafford, MO on Sunday, December 30, 2012, at the age of 80. Emmett is preceded in death by his father Emmett Oneal Corkren, Sr. and his mother Agnes E. (Phillips) Corkren. Emmett is survived by his loving wife of 62 years. They were married in Columbus, MS on May 13, 1950. Emmett is lovingly remembered by his two daughters Linda Dyer and husband Ray of Springfield, MO and daughter Joyce Graves and husband Jack of Strafford, MO, a brother David Corkren of Strafford, MO, four grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and too many nieces and nephews to mention.
Emmett was born in Fayette County, AL, February 27, 1932. He went to school at Rogersville High School through the 9th grade. As a young man he worked on the railroad in Memphis, TN. He also built bridges as and worked as a carpenter most of his life. Emmett enjoyed working with his hands making all sorts of things out of wood. He loved to go camping and fishing especially with all of his grandchildren. At the age of 65 Emmett accepted Jesus as his savior and committed his life to Christ. He will be deeply missed by all those who had the pleasure of calling him husband, dad, grandpa, uncle, and friend.
The visitation will be held at Greenlawn Funeral Home, 3506 N. National Ave., Springfield, MO 65803 on January 3 at 11:00 a.m., with the funeral to follow at 1:00 p.m. Interment to follow at White Chapel Memorial Gardens, 5234 W State Highway EE, Springfield, MO 65802.
