Ernest Lee Iiams of Cross Timbers, formerly of Bolivar, Elkton, and Warrensburg entered into rest in his home on January 20, 2011.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Lila; his parents, Eddie and Katie Iiams; and his brother, Raymond Iiams.
He is survived by his three children, Virgil Lee Iiams and wife Carolyn of Falcon, Bonnie Anderson and husband Terry of Elkton, and Ernie Iiams and Maria of Cross Timbers; three grandchildren, Eddie Iiams and wife Stefanie of Fort Knox, KY, Zachary Iiams and wife Amber of Anchorage, AK, and Katie Iiams of Cross Timbers; two great-grandchildren, Cailin Iiams of Ky and Phoenix Iiams of AR; one brother, Charlie Iiams of Yakima, WA and Lorraine Scharnhorst of Bolivar and may other relatives and friends.
Ernest was born on August 2, 1928, on the family farm in Concordia. He grew up in and around Warrensburg and on December 18, 1949 married Lila Howe. They made their home in Warrensburg for many years. While there, Ernest worked various jobs but spent many years as a repairman for Sears. They moved to Elkton in 1976. He worked in Bolivar at Wade’s Supermarket for several years. They opened the Iiams Sugar Shack Antique and Flea Market in Elkton and operated this business until 1999 when they moved to Bolivar.
In the early 1980s, Ernest joined by testimony of his salvation and was baptized into Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Nemo where he has been a member ever since.
Ernest enjoyed spending time with friends and relatives. He took great joy in refinishing furniture and fixing all kinds of items. His quiet strength and loving heart will be missed by all who knew him.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 P.M., Saturday, January 22, in Pitts Chapel, Bolivar. Graveside services will be held at 2 P.M., Sunday, January 23, in Warrensburg Memorial Gardens, Warrensburg with Bro. Wayne Rush officiating.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Pitts Chapel of Greenlawn Funeral Home, Bolivar.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association in care of Pitts Chapel.
