Eva Trantham, a lifelong resident of the Springfield area, passed from this life to be with her Lord on January 6, 2015, at the age of 81 years. She was born on December 12, 1934, to Otis and Sarah Southard.
Eva was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and five sisters. Survivors include her husband Fred, a sister Christina Worley of Springfield, several nieces and nephews, and many friends.
Eva was a graduate of what is now Missouri State University. She taught in Laclede County public schools for many years and then transferred to the U.S. government offices at Fort Leonard Wood for about eleven years. In 1977 she moved to the Social Security office in Springfield and worked there until her retirement in 2002.
Fred and Eva were married on November 7, 1977. They traveled extensively before and after retirement. They also enjoyed square dancing and belonged to square dance clubs. Their wonderful pet companions, Samantha Kay and Meghan Ann, gave them great joy and contentment throughout their lifetime. They were both members of South Haven Baptist Church.
Graveside services will be held at the Missouri Veteran’s Cemetery near Lake Springfield on Tuesday, January 12, at 11:00. No visitation is planned.
