In Loving Memory of Forrest Ellsworth Durnell
September 17, 1931 – January 16, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Forrest Ellsworth Durnell on January 16, 2024, at the age of 92. Forrest’s journey on this earth began on September 17, 1931, in Higginsville, Missouri, where he was born to loving parents, Olen Alva and Louella (Hellums) Durnell. He peacefully departed his earthly life at the Manor at Elfindale in Springfield, Missouri.
Forrest was a kind and humble man who touched the lives of all who knew him. He possessed a deep love for his family, cherishing the moments spent alongside them. He found solace in the tranquility of fishing, spending countless hours casting his line alongside his wife and grandson.
Forrest served in the United States Navy beginning in 1949 until his retirement as Lieutenant in 1970. On March 8, 1958, Forrest was united in marriage to Wilma Lorraine Irvin in Independence, Missouri. In his civilian career, Forrest found success as a production planner, dedicating years of service to 3M.
Forrest was a devout member of ReNew Church in Willard, Missouri. His faith was unwavering, and he served his church community with great dedication. He was actively involved in various committees and prayer groups, and as a member of the Men’s Group.
Forrest was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Lorraine Durnell. He is survived by his loving and devoted sons, Bruce Durnell, and his wife, April Durnell, and Gordon Durnell and his wife, Donnie Durnell; his beloved grandson, Brandon Durnell, and his wife, Sarah Durnell.
The family will receive visitors on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, beginning at 10:00 am in ReNew Church, Willard, Missouri. A funeral service will immediately follow at 11:00 am, also in the church. He will be laid to rest in Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield, Missouri at 1:00 pm.
As we bid farewell to Forrest Ellsworth Durnell, we remember him not only for his dedication to family, career, and faith but also for his genuine kindness and unwavering spirit. His legacy of love, integrity, and service will forever remain in our hearts.
