F. Louise Quinn Bodanske Holman, age 99, passed away on September 12, 2011. She had resided in Springfield since 1926. Louise was the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Gideon Quinn and was born in Golden, Missouri on May 10, 1912. She was the youngest of her siblings; Mary Lee Burke of Carthage, Ruth McCall of Springfield, Salyer Quinn of Columbus, Ohio, Mildred Regan of Inverness, Florida. All preceded her in death.
Louise attended school in Springfield, graduating from Senior High School in 1930, then graduating from Southwest Missouri State College. She started teaching elementary school in Galloway at Sequiota, then Rogersville and Rountree in Springfield. In 1949, Louise volunteered to teach children isolated in the Polio Cottage established by Burge Hospital and stayed there for five years until the Salk vaccine lessened the need for isolation wards. Louise then completed her twenty year teaching career with Springfield Public Schools at Portland and finally Sunshine.
Louise eloped with Ed Bodanske in 1934 and had two children that survive her, Peggy Alexander of Springfield, and Edward A. Bodanske of Inverness, Florida. Ed and Louise enjoyed forty-two years of marriage before Ed died in 1976.
Leland Holman and Louise married in 1977 and had nearly twenty wonderful years together before Leland passed in 1996.
Louise is also survived by the following; sister-in-law, Hester Boone of Eldorado Springs; stepdaughter, Eleanor Holman Sigmon and her husband James of Arizona; step-granddaughter, Linda Roxburg and her husband Steve; and great-granddaughters, Emmie, Laura and Anna; grandsons, Greg Engel, his wife Teresa and great-grandsons, Grayson and Carter of Parker, Colorado, and Brett Engel, his wife Sandra and great-grandsons, Ryan and Ross of Lawrence, Kansas and Parker of Albuquerque, New Mexico; step-grandson, Jim Sigmon, his wife Carolyn and great-granddaughters, Rachel, Jennifer and Annie; nephews, David and Phillip McCall of Springfield and John Bodanske of Virginia, and Dan Bodanske of Arkansas; nieces, Julie Cook of Columbus, Ohio, and Maxine Burks of Carthage.
The family would like to recognize the staff at The Manor at Elfindale for their loving and thoughtful care of Louise during her nearly two year residency.
Arrangements will be handled by Greenlawn Funeral Home South, services at 1:00 p.m. Saturday September 17, 2011.
