In loving memory of Frank Herschel Jones Jr, our hearts are heavy as we honor the life he lived and bid him a fond farewell. Frank, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and brother, passed away on January 9, 2024, at the age of 85 surrounded by his family.
Born to Frank Herschel, Sr. and Margaret Ella (Byers) Jones on September 25, 1938, in Deer River, MN. Frank embraced life with a sense of adventure and a deep devotion to his family. Throughout his remarkable journey, he left an ever lasting mark on the lives of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
Frank’s dedication to his family was unwavering. He shared a beautiful union with his loving wife Carole, whom he married on September 9, 1961. Together, they built a solid foundation of love, support, and laughter that lasted over six decades. Frank was a father figure like no other, guiding and nurturing his children, Kenneth, Kari, Kristen, and Kevin, with wisdom and love.
He was affectionately known as “King Popper” to his grandchildren and great-grandchild, Sara, Sandra, Sofia, Melisa, C.J., Jeremie, James, Elizabeth, Ellynn, Ari, Freya, and great-grandson, Isaac. The joy and smiles were a blessing from a grandfather who could always make them laugh and brighten their days.
Frank’s zest for life was evident in his varied interests and pursuits. He dabbled in woodworking, farming, real estate, and even owned and operated a motel for a time. His passion for adventure and excitement were seen through activities such as flying, boating, snow and water skiing as well as golfing. Frank also found joy in the arts, participating in community theater productions where he showcased his talents and brought characters to life.
Professionally, Frank excelled as an insurance agent, leaving an indelible impact on the lives of countless individuals and families. His dedication and diligence were recognized as he climbed the ranks, becoming a manager, district manager and finally vice president in the insurance industry.
Beyond his accomplishments and passions, Frank’s greatest legacy was his compassionate and caring nature. Always ready with a teasing comment, he showed his affection through laughter and light-hardheartedness. Frank’s playful ribbing and mischievous spirit endeared him to all who knew him.
His faith also meant a lot to him and he was active in many ways in his church including bible studies, ushering, serving as an Elder, leading the Senior Group, organizing special events and even mowing the lawn!
He was predeceased by his parents, and a brother Earl Jones.
Frank leaves behind his wife, Carole; four children and their spouses, Kenneth Jones and Carmen Arevalo, Kari and Jon Done, Kristen and Dave Schloss, and Kevin Jones and Jessica Raines-Jones; eleven grandchildren, Sara Jones, Sandra Jones, Sofia Jones, Melisa and David Hamilton, C.J. Done, Jeremie and Courtney Schloss, James Schloss and Ayaka Usui, Elizabeth Schloss and David Hearn, Ellynn Schloss, Ari Grouns, Freya Jones; a great-grandson, Isaac Usui Schloss, and one on the way; a brother and his wife, David and Rosi Jones; two sisters, Edith “Edie” Walz and Marlys St. George; a sister-in-law, Marlys Jones, survining spouse of Earl Jones; and numerous cousins, nephews, nieces, other family members and friends.
A visitation for family and friends to pay their respects will be held on January 13, 2024, at 10:00 am at Faith Lutheran Church followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am also in the church. We invite you to join us in person or on-line as we celebrate Frank’s life, sharing treasured memories and finding solace in each other’s presence.
