Fred William Anderson, age 68, passed away suddenly September 9, 2018. He was born May 5, 1950 in Springfield where he grew up and graduated from Hillcrest High School in 1968. He married Joy Collier in 1975 and had 43 wonderful years together. After 13 years of marriage, they were blessed with a beautiful daughter Chelsea. There wasn’t a prouder daddy on earth than Fred.
He was fortunate to work at a job he truly loved. He retired from BNSF Railroad on June 10, 2011 after 41 years of service. He was currently serving as a school crossing guard at Horace Mann Elementary which he thoroughly enjoyed.
Fred loved sports. He played and coached AAA Fast Pitch softball and coached a Boys Club basketball team for over 10 years. He also was the coach of an AAU basketball team who went to the National Tournament twice. He loved golf and was so thrilled when Chelsea took up the game. He loved his St. Louis Cardinals and Kansas City Chiefs, but married a Broncos fan, which made for an “interesting” football season! If Fred liked you when he met you, he would be your friend for life.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents Edwin and Freda Anderson, sisters Edwina Whaley and Sandra (Sue) Murphey and his mother-in-law Margaret (Maggie) Collier.
He is survived by his wife Joy, daughter Chelsea and her husband Zach Houser, sister Barbara Beisiegel, father-in-law Robert Collier, his kitty Sassy, best friends Mike and Deanna Peltz, numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved very much.
A memorial service for Fred will be at 10:00 am Saturday, September 15, 2018 at Greenlawn Funeral Home East. A memorial visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Friday September 14, 2018 in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the American Diabetes Association or the Springfield Boys & Girls Club may be made.
