Mr. Gale R. Charles, age 89 of Springfield, MO, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, September 15, 2010, in his home following a lengthy illness. He was born March 19, 1921, in Lawrence County, MO, to Cecil and Ruby (Arthur) Charles. He is a US Navy WWII Veteran. He was united in marriage to Ruth Filbeck May 25, 1947. He was a member of the Sunset Church of Christ.
He worked for Crown Drug Store as a manager and druggist. He retired after 18 years of ownership of the Dairy Boy in El Reno, OK.
His parents and a brother Clyde Charles precede him in death.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years Ruth of the home; two children: Steven Charles of Oswego, KS, and Sharon Arthur of Hurst, TX; a daughter in-law Brenda Charles of Oswego, KS; four grandchildren: Hilary Betaille and husband William of Gouvieux, France, Mandy Crittendon and husband Ivory of Houston, TX, Spencer Charles and wife Laura of Oswego, KS, and Chase Arthur of Fort Worth, TX; seven great grandchildren: Max and Victor Betaille, Jalen, Justice, and Mayah Crittendon, and Adrien and Aleyna Charles; a sister Nadine Hixon of Springfield, MO; a brother Leon Charles of Lockwood, MO; as well as many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, September 17, 2010, in Greenlawn Funeral Home South. Burial will follow at Red Oak Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Thursday, September 16, 2010, from 7:00 to 8:00 PM. In lieu of plants and flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Southhaven Chidrens Home. Arrangements have been entrusted to Greenlawn Funeral Home South Springfield, MO.
