Gareld Borgstadt,79,went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 4, 2013,after a car accident and extensive surgery. He was born August, 2, 1934, son of Hubert and Virginia Borgstadt, of Bolivar,MO. Gareld grew up in CA and moved back to Bolivar durning his high school years. Most of his Sr. year he lived in Guam, but he didcome back to graduate from Bolivar High School.
he is preceded in death by his parentsand a sister, Connie. Gareld married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Kilpatrick, in Bolivar on June 24, 1954. After attending Texas A@M for one semester, he completed his Civil Engineering degree at the university of Oklahoma. Throughout his life,he remained an avid O.U. fan taking along his kids and grandkids. “Boomer Sooners!!!”
“Borgie” worked 10 years in the heavy construction division with the Guy F. Atkinson firm in CA, before returning to Springfield, MO in 1971. H e worked with theBill DeWitt Company, Hood-Rich Architectural Firm, Wirt Corp, and the construction division for R-12 Springfield Public School District. He served as the Directorof Buliding Regulations for the City of Springfield for several years before retiring. In recent years, he has done commercial inspections for the PFS Corporation in Missouriand neighboring states. Durning his career, he served on the Planning and Zoning Commision, was an officer and long-term member of the Springfield Chapter of Missouri Society of Professional Engineers and was appointed by Governor Mel Carnahan to serve on a board reviewing the state buliding codes.
Gareld was, above all things on this earth, a family man. He was involved in every part of his children’s lives:served as president of the Hillcrest football booster club and Blue Wave band booster club, coached Pop Warner football, watched many football and basketball games— cheerleaders, players, and marching band; tennismatches, soccer, volleyball, track meets, baseball games, bowling, Jr. Bible Quiz, fishingtrips, and many legos creations. He enjoyed attending their concerts, drama, presentations, dance recitals, and robotic competions. Borgieserved as a judge at many speech and debate tournments, and science fairs. He was very thankful for and proud of each one— he loved being a dad and granddad!
Borgie was a member at Central Assembly for 38 years. He served on the church board under the leadership of pastors Wannenmacher, Watson, and Bradford. Under Pastor Wannenmacher, he served as liason between the church and the contractor for the construction of the current sanctuary. He also served the church in other various ways: Alpha Ministries, Sunday School, small group and in many more capacities.
His love for the outdoors is reflected in their log home- watching wildlife, feeding the birds and his enjoyment of fishing. He passed on his love for nature to his family. Their favorite family vacation spot is Yosimite National Park.
Borgie is survived by his wife Shirley, their six children, Daniel, Janet, Ted, Valerie, Rebecca, Joshua and their spouses, 14 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, 2 sisters, numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and many beloved friends. Borgie was known for his cheerful disposition and warm smile with ready anecdote for every occasion.
Visitation with the family is this Friday from 5pm to 8 pm at Central Assembly, 1301 N. Boonville Ave. The funeral is Saturday, September 14, 2013 at 10:00am at Central.
