Gene Arthur Griffee, 88, of Nixa, passed away July 13, 2011. He was born May 20, 1923, in Marysville, Kansas, to Grant and Viola (Swank) Griffee. Following his service to his country in World War II, he pursued work as forest ranger and seismograph operations in Utah and Colorado, where he met and married Shirley Fay Carpenter, now having shared 56 harmonious years together.
Gene enjoyed diligently studying Bible scriptures, and he actively lived his faith. His interests in life were centered around his family; horses, botany, horses, carpentry/woodworking, and more horses. His green thumb was displayed through beauty at home, and he shared his multiple talents so freely. His life of integrity was a reflection of honesty, wisdom, and encouragement that touched many throughout his faithful years.
Gene is survived by his wife, Shirley, of the home; daughter Colleen Griffee, Springfield; daughter Connie (Gene) McKeen, Turners Station; son Delton (Jessica) Griffee, Shawnee, KS, and son Lanny (Fay) Griffee, West Plains; three wonderful grandchildren, Jessie, Derek, and Leanne, and their familys. He was blessed with two great-grandchildren, Dalton and Jayden, and many treasured nieces, nephews, and friends. He is also survived by his brother Gilbert Griffee and his sisters Juanita Heldstab and Ellene Stonehair. Gene was preceded in death by his parents, brother Marshall Griffee, and sister Lorraine Linder.
We are honoring Gene’s desire for an immediate family service, with inurnment, at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery.
